<description>My name is Karen Wessels and I am a Breast Cancer Survivor! I was diagnosed with breast Cancer three years ago. It came to me as a total shock as no-one in our Family had a history of Breast Cancer. I questioned why me, but soon realized that I could not sit in a corner and give up, and had to pull myself together, for my husband, children , family and friends. One does not realize it but one gets strength from the Lord to get through Cancer and come out on the other side with the relization of getting a second chance in life.

My option was to have treatment here in Namibia or go for a second opinion to South Africa. I received 6 months of intensive chemotherapy , followed by and operation and reconstruction , followed by 7 weeks of intense radiation. It broke down my body but also killed the cancer ! I believe that today I am Cancer free , but always say that I am in remission for the rest of my life and have to look after myself. This has taught me to be strong and healthy and realize that I have to look after my body .
The strengh that women get going through Breast Cancer is amazing and through my volunteer work with Breast Cancer patients , I can mention that I have only met emotionally strong women , who are an example to the community of Namibia.
We are a unique Sisterhood of Breast Cancer Survivors and I am proud to be one of them !!!!!!!!!!
